LaTroy Lewis’ new team is coming off a disastrous season in which the team faced lots of pressure to capitalize on its choice to go all-in with Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins. The operation failed and now the team’s attempt to pick up the pieces might have reached its first notable hurdle.
LaTroy Lewis, Atlanta’s new assistant defensive line coach, finds himself in potentially hot water amid allegations of rape stemming from his tenure with the Michigan Wolverines, according to Justin Spiro of “The Spiro Avenue Show” via ESPN’s Marc Raimondi and a Friday report by On3.
The graphic report describes alleged messages sent to an unnamed victim from Lewis and Michigan’s Sherrone Moore. Moore allegedly offered Lewis a raise after learning about the rape from the victim and “proceeded to sexually harass the woman himself” roughly a year later, after recommending Lewis to join Toledo.
The alleged incidents with Lewis took place in 2024, escalating after the two met on an online social media dating service. Moore’s alleged illicit involvement with the victim began in November.
Lewis joined the Michigan Wolverines in 2022 when the team was led by Jim Harbaugh, departing the team to join Atlanta this offseason.
LaTroy Lewis Allegations Create Additional Trouble for Atlanta Falcons During Potential Franchise-Changing Moment
The allegations against LaTroy Lewis have given Atlanta plenty of issues to consider in addition to what its going to do this offseason. Kevin Stefanski has the reins as the new head coach after the team moved on from the defensive-minded Raheem Morris, signalling a shift away from defense to offense.
As such, with free agency on the horizon and the NFL Combine taking place in late February, the team has plenty on its plate. The decisions made in the next two weeks could set the stage for the next 12 months and likely longer.
Now, the team will need to head into the next wave of player additions after admitting it chose wrong on its coaching staff already.
According to Adam Schefter in a Friday report on X, Lewis was dismissed from his duties.
“Falcons now have dismissed LaTroy Lewis from his role as assistant defensive line coach,” Schefter posted.
Now, in addition to adding players, another assistant defensive line coach is on the list of to-dos in Atlanta.
