When ESPN let Ryan Clark go, it was reportedly during a commercial break in the middle of his show. Now, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star is pushing back on his former employer, most notably during his appearance on The Pivot podcast. There, the former ESPN personality was in tears as things got emotional.
However, not everyone was feeling sympathetic to Ryan Clark’s plight, as some notable creators slammed him for that emotional outburst. This includes Outkick founder Clay Travis, who said that Clark crashed out during that podcast appearance.
“Dude talks about football games, by the way. He can still talk about football as much as he wants. As almost all of you do for free with all your friends. Tough crash out here.” he said.
Clark did not just call out ESPN during that podcast appearance, but also Outkick, reportedly claiming that the two media companies cooperated with one another, with his former employer leaking his firing to Outkick to make him look bad.
“I wasn’t laid off. I was fired. They’re using layoffs as a cover and a camouflage for what they already intended on doing,” Clark said. “But there was no cause for it. So because there was no cause for it, you couldn’t just fire me. So you had to wait for the layoff so you could camouflage it and veil it.” (13:44)
Ryan Clark Claims ESPN Leaked Firing Info To Outkick, Which They Knew Did Not Like Him
Ryan Clark has had some history with Outkick, and this stemmed from an incident regarding ESPN’s Kyren Lacy where two of his colleagues apologized. The former NFL player did not want to apologize initially, but he eventually did. While Outkick praised those two colleagues, they slammed Clark, and this has reportedly led to things getting cold between the Super Bowl champion and the Fox News-owned media outlet.
Soon enough, Clark pushed back, saying that he did not deserve to be treated that way, which he saw as his then-employer leaking his firing to an outlet he did not get along with.
“I didn’t deserve to be handled that way. So, let’s get ahead of it. and they were going to get ahead of it by leaking it to someone who they know hated me,” he said. (17:11)
Clark’s firing was part of a larger round of cuts at ESPN parent company Disney, though these layoffs at ESPN were expected by many after the company merged with the NFL Network.
