During the NFL Draft Combine, cameras caught the New York Jets head coach, Aaron Glenn, sleeping. He has been an easy target on the internet since then. Being an NFL coach isn’t an easy job. One has a lot on their plate all the time, and they have to oversee nearly everything that goes on in an organization.
While the players often get applauded for showing up early and going the extra mile, the coaches also keep up with an exhausting schedule. Glenn is no exception. He has been coaching at different positions since 2014.
The problem in this case is that a coach losing focus on live TV is going to stir up a debate. The incident occurred at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It was during the evaluation process for defensive linemen and linebackers.
When the cameras panned to the team’s suites, Glenn was seen with his eyes closed and his face resting on his right hand. It’s unclear whether he noticed it himself or someone woke him up, but within seconds, he was up and ready.
But the damage was done. Barstool Sports posted the clip of Glenn on X with the caption, “Did the cameras catch Aaron Glenn sleeping at the NFL Combine?” Then it was time for fans to do what they do best on the internet.
“Great form. Transitioning to the opposite hand to make it appear as if he was awake the whole time in a relaxed position. This level of talent was years in the making, starting in grade school. A- overall here,” a fan wrote.
“Falling asleep on the job is another one of his ‘superpowers’,” a fan wrote.
It wasn’t just the internet that was piling on Glenn. The clip made its way to some media houses as well. Pat McAfee Show co-host Connor Campbell wrote, “top 5 worst wake ups ever,” taking a dig at Glenn.
Aaron Glenn and His “Superpower”
Fans labeling this incident as ‘another one of his superpowers’ isn’t random. Glenn has boasted about having superpowers when it comes to the game of football. His superpower lies in his ability to play calling.
“To me, play calling is my superpower, really,” he said. “Doing it for four years in Detroit, man, just look at the maturation of those four years of how we improved every year and how I improved as as a play caller.”
He had said that he misses doing that and believes that it’s going to help his team in the process of achieving their ultimate goal.
