Former NFL defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko paid tribute to Super Bowl XLIX champion Jordan Devey, who died at the age of 38. Devey died by suicide on Tuesday, according to his family.
On Friday, Fehoko acknowledged the problem of mental health in society. He also shared a link to a GoFundMe page for Devey’s family.
“Another NFL brother lost to the mental health battle,” Fehoko wrote. “Rest in peace Jordan Devey. I promise this is very real. It’s dark, it’s lonely, it’s cold, and this affects every part of your life. The anxiety..ptsd..depression it’s all real.”
According to the GoFundMe Page, the funds are being raised to help with immediate financial and medical expenses.
“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time. As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Linsey and their children. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses,” the page read.
Devey leaves behind his wife, Linsey, and their four children.
This was not the first time Fehoko has spoken about mental health awareness. In February, he wrote a lengthy post on X accusing the NFL and its stakeholders of not caring about the players’ mental health.
“Imma keep it a stack.. I don’t care, I’m retired, I’ll say what I want,” Fehoko wrote. “These NFL teams come out here and post these mental health awareness posts talking about they care about players, “don’t be afraid to reach out” etc. All they care about is what you bring to the table when it’s game day. Most players don’t wanna get help inside the building of an NFL organization because they know you’ll get looked at differently. You go to a staff member tell em you struggling watch how different they start treating and looking at you. I seen it first hand.
“l’ll start believing they care about player health when the Owner, GM, & head coach treat everyone on that roster the same from the franchise QB to the janitor.”
Who Was Jordan Devey?
Jordan Devey went undrafted out of the University of Memphis in 2013 but still managed to forge an eight-year career in the NFL. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens before being released, then landed with the Patriots, with whom he won the Super Bowl in the 2014 season.
He played the following season for the San Francisco 49ers and was with the Kansas City Chiefs through 2018. His next two seasons were with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Buffalo Bills. Overall, he played 44 regular-season games, making 21 starts.
After retiring, Devey moved to Idaho, where he became an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eagle High School.
