It seems like Stephen A. Smith is not a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ new head coaching hire: Former Cowboys and Packers coach Mike McCarthy. For him, the Steelers should’ve gone for young blood and a new way of doing things. Not more of the same, they already had with Mike Tomlin.
This Monday, he expressed this opinion in an unlikely fashion, stating that his co-worker, Ryan Clark, should’ve gotten at least an interview for the vacancy:
“I want to state for the record, and I’m not joking about this, I’m dead serious. I believe that Ryan Clark should’ve been interviewed for the job.” said Smith on First Take this Monday, as Clark heard him.
Clark is a former NFL safety who spent seven seasons with the Steelers, with whom he won Super XLIII. Yet, he’s an unlikely choice for head coach, and fans made sure to share this opinion on X.
“This show gets worse every week 🤣😂,” wrote one fan
“Hahahaha Ryan Clark as a coach 😂😂 now I’ve heard it all! This dude has some of the absolute worst takes I’ve ever heard from anyone who played football! Get tha clown off TV and do not let him ruin an NFL team bc he will with his race baiting,” joked another person
“This is so weak. I mean if Clark let it be known he wants to coach then ok have this conversation. It’s not like they just randomly called up Rivers. It was out there he wanted to be a HC,” said another person
Is Ryan Clark even ready to be a coach?
“This is a glaring indication of how clueless SAS truly is. To even joke that RC could be a coach at any level, with his extreme racism and inert hatred. Even RC is laughing his ass off,” explained another person
Other fans thought that they were missing the subtle point Stephen A. Smith was trying to make with regard to the Steelers’ hiring of a new head coach.
“I think everyone is missing the point, he trying to say basically the Steelers should look for someone unknown or someone young. Not something old and safe,” said someone
Others thought it was as preposterous as Phillip Rivers being an NFL head coach
“It’s no more worse than Phillip Rivers… I mean damn, he actually got an interview….,” claimed one person
How Long is Mike McCarthy’s Contract With The Pittsburgh Steelers?
The Steelers have given their new head coach a five-year contract. Not much is known beyond this, but it shows that the team is somewhat willing to give him a wide berth to build up the team, although the ownership has already expressed that he’s expected to be a contender from early on.
Details of the monetary value are not known, but for reference, he was making around 8$ million with the Dallas Cowboys.
