Shedeur Sanders was a fifth-round, 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite being a fifth-round pick, he was one of the most talked-about talents in that year’s draft, and there was a good reason for that.
Shedeur was initially projected to be a top draft pick, with many mock drafts putting him inside the top 10. Even those who disagreed with him being a top 10 talent agreed that he would be a first-round pick.
The son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns. Interestingly, he wasn’t the only athlete from the Sanders family in the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur’s brother, Shilo, appeared for the draft.
Shilo played safety for three different college programs. From 2019 to 2020, he played for the South Carolina Gamecocks. In 2021, he transferred to Jackson State Tigers, and in 2023, he joined the Colorado Buffaloes.
Unlike his brother, Shilo wasn’t a highly rated prospect. From the beginning, he was seen as a late-round draft pick or a priority undrafted free agent. So, it wasn’t surprising when he went undrafted.
He later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. Although Shedeur was the primary focus in the NFL media, Shilo was still expected to have a good career in the league.
During a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Shilo was ejected following an unnecessary roughness penalty for punching the Bills’ tight end Zach Davidson after a play. The league slapped a $4,669 fine for his action.
Head coach Todd Bowles was unhappy with his action and called it “inexcusable.” Three days after the incident, the Buccaneers waived him. The incident, coupled with struggles in coverage, made him a likely cut. Shilo hasn’t signed with another team since.
Shedeur Sanders is not the Frontrunner to be the Browns’ starting QB
Shedeur’s rookie season with the Cleveland Browns didn’t go as expected. He didn’t get any time on the field in the first half of the season, serving as a second backup at the quarterback position.
Under the new leadership of Todd Monken, he was expected to have the starting quarterback role for the Browns. However, that role is now seemingly headed toward Deshaun Watson. The veteran quarterback is likely to be the starting QB next season.
Watson received the most first-team reps during the Browns’ first voluntary minicamp. Sanders was second in line and was followed by Dillon Gabriel, who joined the team as a third-round pick in the 2025 draft.
