Tom Brady Left In Awe As Lionel Messi Leads Argentina To Miraculous Comeback Win Over England

Argentina has made it to its third FIFA World Cup final in the 21st century, as Lionel Messi and co. pulled off a last-minute comeback win against Harry Kane’s England on Wednesday in Atlanta. After trailing for the better part of the second half, the Albiceleste tied the game with a goal by Enzo Fernández in the 85th minute, and they sealed their win with a header goal by Lautaro Martínez at 90+2.

Someone who seems to have had the blood pumping by Argentina’s comeback win was NFL legend Tom Brady, who wrote the following tweet after the win by the South American nation:

“Oh my god 🤯,” said Brady

The Three Lions spent the latter part of the second half fighting for their lives, having retreated into their own half of the pitch after Anthony Gordon gave them a provisional lead at the 55th minute. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford produced several life-saving stops before Argentina tied.

Yet following the hydration break, England’s will to fight seemed to banish.

Patrick Mahomes reacts to Argentina’s 2-1 win

Another NFL star reacted almost immediately to Argentina’s win: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. His reaction was as simple as Tom Brady’s, if a bit more humorous.

Mahomes shared a famous meme that shows a man saying:

“That’s why he’s the GOAT. THE GOAT”

This seems a clear reference to Lionel Messi, who is widely considered the greatest soccer player of all time. On Sunday, he will be playing his third and likely last World Cup final, having played in the final of 2014, when Argentina lost to Germany, and in 2022, when he won his country’s third World Cup title in a game against France.

Messi also has a golden opportunity to become the tournament’s top goalscorer, as he’s currently tied with France’s Kylian Mbappé with eight goals. The players who could’ve beaten him, Mbappe, Harry Kane (six), Jude Bellingham (six) and Norway’s Erling Haaland (seven), are not playing the final game of the tournament. He’s guaranteed to at least share the award with Mbappe.

Lionel Messi has already become the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history with 21 goals.

Argentina will play Spain on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in the 2026 World Cup final.
