Mercedes-Benz Stadium witnessed a miraculous comeback on Wednesday as Lionel Messi and Argentina managed to claw back from a one-goal deficit to score back-to-back goals in a matter of minutes, knocking out England from the FIFA World Cup.
While Messi wasn’t the one who scored either goal, the 39-year-old was responsible for two assists. The Inter Miami star’s heroics left several celebrities in shock, including Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and more.
However, former Dallas Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant took the praise one step further, comparing Messi’s late-game clutch play to that of Kobe Bryant, saying both superstars had a completely different misdemeanor when it was crunch time.
Bryant had a variety of clutch games throughout his storied NBA career, including a 41-point performance against Denver in 2009, including four free throws to ice the game in a 103-97 win.
Bryant also famously played on a sprained ankle, putting his team over the hump after superstar teammate Shaquille O’Neal fouled out during Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Pacers.
After a thrilling win sending odds-on favorites England home, Argentina will now face Spain in the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Brady said:

Mahomes etched his name into NFL history in 2021 with the ’13 second drive’ against the Buffalo Bills, turning around a three-point deficit to an overtime win.
