Myles Garrett Posts Cryptic Reaction After Browns Choose Todd Monken Over Jim Schwartz

It seems like a vast majority doesn’t like the Todd Monken hiring by the Cleveland Browns, and that includes their star defensive end, Myles Garrett. The Browns hired Monken as their next head coach yesterday.

Monken was chosen over Jim Schwartz, who was gunning for the role and has been the defensive coordinator for the Browns since 2023. There are a few things that separate Schwartz from Monken.

He is familiar with the organization and their current roster, and he has prior NFL head coaching experience with the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2013. Compared to Monken’s non-existent NFL head coaching experience, Schwartz would’ve been a better option.

Fans, analysts, and experts have made their disapproval of Monken’s hiring very clear. They don’t believe he’s a great fit, at least not what the organization needed after being on a terrible run for the last few years.

Garrett added himself to the list with a cryptic message. He posted a picture of a Popeye’s worker sitting outside on a bench. It’s a popular meme on social media that represents someone who is worn out and on the verge of breaking down.

Whether Garrett posted the image in the same context can be up for debate. However, it’s common knowledge within 24 hours that Monken hasn’t won the confidence of people who support or play for the Browns, except Shedeur Sanders.

Hours after the official announcement, Sanders took to Instagram and posted a three-word message for his new coach. “Time to work,” Sanders wrote on his Instagram story with a graphic of Monken as the new head coach.

Other than Garrett, Monken has also failed to win over the analysts and former players, as they believe he lacks the resume to be an NFL coach.

Emmanuel Acho Doesn’t Have Faith in Todd Monken

On a recent episode of Speakeasy, Emmanuel Acho, the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker, said that hiring Monken was a bad decision made by the Browns. In his opinion, Monken hasn’t achieved anything to earn the respect of players.

He believes that the Browns locker room wouldn’t have any valid reason to follow whatever he says because they’ll all look at him as an underachiever. In addition to that, Acho doesn’t think Monken can develop Sanders into a great quarterback.

“There is nothing about Todd Monken as a head coach that should get you excited,” he said. “I need to see who the offensive coordinator is going to be. That’s what I need to see.”

Acho stated that he’d have respected Monken as an offensive coordinator because he has achieved something as a position coach. Putting him in the head coaching position has received little to no support from the fans.
