Trey Hendrickson left the Cincinnati Bengals for the Baltimore Ravens in free agency.
The veteran edge rusher agreed to a four-year, $112 million with the Ravens that includes $60 million guaranteed after the team backed out of its trade with for Maxx Crosby.
Following his departure from the Bengals, Hendrickson took a subtle shot at his former team, and their lack of winning late games due to the team always being in shootouts.
Per Sarah Ellison, co-host of Ravens Vault and former Ravens editor, Hendrickson said he’s excited to play with quarterback Lamar Jackson and have the opportunity to put the ball in his hands at the end of games to finish them.
The comment can be seen as an indirect jab as the Bengals have missed the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. Hendrickson has also requested a trade from Cincy multiple times in the past. It was a breakup waiting to happen and now Hendrickson will get to face the Bengals twice a year being in the AFC North.
Trey Hendrickson Had Back-To-Back 17.5-Sack Seasons In 2023 & 2024
There’s a reason why the Baltimore Ravens made Trey Hendrickson one of the highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL: he’s extremely productive.
During a contract year with the New Orleans Saints in 2020, he set a career-high in sacks with 13.5, surpassing his sack total from the prior three seasons combined. He followed up with a 14-sack season with the Bengals in 2021.
In 2023 and 2024, Hendrickson had his most productive seasons of his NFL career, totaling 17.5 sacks in each season.
This past season, Hendrickson had just four sacks in seven games played. He suffered a lower lumbar sprain in Week 6 and in Week 8 when he returned, suffered a season-ending inguinal hip strain.
It will be interesting to see how Hendrickson returns next season from his injuries and if they’ll have any impact on his play early on this upcoming season.
