Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marcellus Wiley is making the news again after he was arrested on Saturday and booked into Orange County Jail for domestic battery. He had once been one of the most successful defensive players of his era, and this incident could tarnish his legacy.
Marcellus Wiley NFL Career and Net Worth
Now 51, Marcellus Wiley has gone down the route that many football players have, as he is now working as a broadcast personality, mostly for ESPN, ESPN LA, and FS1. He regularly appears on shows such as “NFL Live,” “Mike & Mike,” “Winners Bracket,” and “SportsNation.”
Before that, however, he had been a star defensive end from 1997 to 2006, playing in the NFL for 10 years, with his best stint coming in 2001 for the San Diego Chargers, where he earned NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.
He is currently earning $350,000 per year for his broadcast appearances, as per CelebrityNetWorth. Throughout his NFL career, he earned around $25 million over 10 years, with his biggest being a six-year, $40 million deal with the San Diego Chargers that included a massive (at that time) $9 million signing bonus.
His current net worth is estimated at $5 million, according to CelebrityNetWorth. This includes what he is earning as a broadcaster, as well as the royalties he receives for his book, “Never Shut Up: The Life, Opinions, and Unexpected Adventures of an NFL Outlier.”
Marcellus Wiley Wife
With the arrest of the former NFL star, the spotlight also falls on his wife, Annemarie Wiley, a registered nurse and former reality show star. She appeared on one season of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” However, it is not his wife who reported him for sexual assault.
Marcellus Wiley Accusations
Records of his custody show that Marcellus Wiley was booked into Orange County Jail and is reportedly being held there without bond, with him standing accused of sexual assault by a former ESPN employee.
This was not the first time the former football star was accused of such things, as he was previously accused of assaulting another former ESPN employee back in 2009, with three other incidents involving three other people also being reported between 1995 and 1999.
This latest case alleged that the former football star assaulted her in a room and that she was scared for her life, with the accuser stating that she “repeatedly pleaded with” Wiley to stop.
