It seems that the social media team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell for a fake or poser account, and the team even tagged it in a few posts. This is what Front Office Sports is reporting as a source has told the outlet that the Bucs social media team was duped into believing that a fake account posing as Emeka Egbuka was the real one.
The team’s official X account tagged the fake account almost 60 times in their posts but soon distanced themselves from the account after it was found to be a fake one. The team said that the profile is not affiliated with them nor does it belong to the real Emeka Egbuka. This fake account raised eyebrows when it posted “Is CTE even real?” on X.
The fake account itself has been suspended as of writing. It should be noted that the real Emeka Egbuka has no known X account, but he is very active on Instagram.
It was longtime Bucs beat writer Greg Auman who found out that the account was fake and revealed several red flags.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tagged Fake Emeka Egbuka Account To Congratulate Him For His Engagement
Perhaps the most egregious example of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers social media team tagging the fake account was for an important milestone in Emeka Egbuka’s life, as he got engaged to his girlfriend, Laney. The team congratulated the Bucs star but tagged the wrong account.
The fake account had duped a lot of people, as it looked too official. It had thousands of followers, including the NFLPA, NFL Films and several notable NFL media members.
