The San Francisco 49ers are taking on the Seattle Seahawks today at Lumen Field. The visiting team is playing without their star tight end, George Kittle, who is out for the rest of the season with an injury.
Kittle tore his right Achilles tendon during the Wild Card Round matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the second quarter of the game, Kittle caught a pass, and the injury happened right after that.
He was then carted back to the locker room. Moments later, it was confirmed that he wouldn’t return for the rest of the game. The 49ers ended up winning 23-19, but Kittle’s season was over.
After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed to the reporters that Kittle had suffered an Achilles tear. With the win over Philadelphia, the 49ers advanced to the Divisional Round matchup against the Seahawks.
Even though Kittle is no longer in the season, he still wants the best for his team. The tight end is supporting the 49ers as they take on Seattle. Unfortunately, due to his injury and surgery, he couldn’t be at the stadium.
So, Kittle will be watching the game from the comfort of his home, accompanied by his wife. Claire posted pictures of the tight end on her Instagram story. Kittle could be seen wearing Eddy Pineiro’s jersey.
“Happy divisional gameday!” she wrote. “We’ll be cheering out as*es off from the couch.”
Kittle was seen standing in one of the pictures, which is shocking because he underwent surgery on January 14. If this is an early sign of the quick recovery he’s about to make, the 49ers fans will not have to worry about his availability next season.
George Kittle’s Emotional Instagram Post After Injury
Throughout the season, Kittle was one of the best players in the 49ers’ lineup. Having spent his entire career so far with the 49ers, he has also become the leader of the group over the last few years.
Although his team advanced to the next round of the playoffs, Kittle was left with the thought that he could no longer help the 49ers chase the title this season. After the injury, he posted an emotional message on Instagram.
“Football sucks sometimes. But I love it. I love these guys and this team. Heartbroken but have felt so much love and support from everyone reaching out. I’ll be good. Thank you,” he wrote. “We aren’t done yet! Also when your team owner is the first person to meet you in the locker room, you know you’re in a special place.”
The usual recovery timeline for this injury is 9-12 months. That means Kittle will miss the first stretch of the next season as well. If he experiences any delay in recovery, he might be out for the entirety of the 2026-27 season.
