“Delayed but Not Denied”: Garrett Nussmeier’s Fiancée Pens Emotional Message After Thrilling Chiefs Pickup in Late 2026 NFL Draft

Former LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is receiving tremendous amounts of support and congratulatory messages for his recent accomplishment, including a special one from a special someone.

On Saturday, all three rounds of this year’s NFL Draft concluded after a three-day draft selection process from April 23 to 25, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As all three rounds were about to wrap up, Nussmeier’s dream was fully realized when he heard his name being called with the 249th and final pick of the 2026 NFL Draft to coach Dave Merritt’s Kansas City Chiefs. With the milestone accomplishment in his career, Nussmeier’s fiancée, Ella Springfield, went over to her Instagram stories to release a couple of uploads that include heartfelt messages.

“Delayed but not denied!!!! God is so good! We can’t wait to call Kansas City home! @garrettnussmeir,” Springfield captioned with an emoji.

With the support of Springfield and the rest of Nussmeier’s family and friends, the 24-year-old will now be a part of the Kansas-based franchise this offseason and potentially be part of the main roster come the 2026 campaign. Nussmeier joins a Chiefs team that recently finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 6-11, but unfortunately did not make the postseason. Kansas City now aims to do so with Nussmeier a part of the team.

Nussmeier is fresh off the 2025 college football season, where he and the rest of coach Lane Kiffin’s Louisiana-based program finished with an overall record of 7-6 (3-5 SEC). Similar to the Chiefs, the Tigers did not make last season’s playoffs, as LSU settled for the Kinder’s Texas Bowl versus the Houston Cougars. LSU lost that game by three points, 38-35.

Ella Springfield Also Shared A Photo Of Her Wearing A Kansas City Chiefs Hat To Support Her Boyfriend

In another upload to her Instagram story, Ella Springfield continued to show all-out support towards the Kansas City Chiefs, now that Garrett Nussmeier is a part of the team, by posting herself wearing a Kansas City hat.

The striking red hat is the same one worn by Nussmeier when he heard his name called in the draft, which then found its way to Springfield as she posed with it for a photo.

    “GO CHIEFS!!!!!,” sPRINGFIELD EXCLAIMED.
