Garrett Nussmeier is partaking in the 2026 Senior Bowl, with the expectation that the showcase event will help him raise his stock ahead of the 2026 NFL Combine and NFL Draft. This comes after his final season at LSU was nowhere near the crowning achievement that he or Brian Kelly expected.
However, as a recent interview shows, the quarterback is taking it all in good stride, being happy to participate in the event for seniors. Someone who’s all here for him is his girlfriend, Ella Springfield, who reposted his recent interview on her Instagram story and added the following caption:
“I have the biggest crush on this man.”

Nussmeier and Springfield met on campus at LSU around 2021 when both were students. Ahead of the 2025 season, in July of last year, the couple decided to get engaged.
Nussmeier’s last season with the LSU Tigers was plagued by an abdominal injury that limited him for most of the campaign. While he missed four games, Nussmeier threw for 1927 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
At One Point in the Season, The Abdominal Injury Prevented Garrett Nussmeier From Throwing
The abdominal injury was no minor issue, directly affecting the way the quarterback throws the ball, at least for a while. It was this injury that was directly responsible for Nussmeier’s benching during November’s game against Alabama. He decided to throw a frontside shallow pass at a point in the game and was overcome by pain.
At the time, he admitted that he was no good for the team if he couldn’t throw such a simple pass.
“At that point, I knew if I can’t throw a frontside shallow, I’m not effective,” Nussemeir said. “I can’t help my team win. From there, it wasn’t really a decision I was able to make to not play. It was forced upon me.”
The idea of surgery was floated, but Nussmeier rejected it as ‘unnecessary,’ and ultimately it wasn’t needed. However, this is surely something that scouts will keep in mind as they evaluate him for the NFL.
A lot rests on this week for Garrett Nussmeier. He entered the 2025 season as a favorite for the Heisman and skipped the 2025 NFL Draft in search of a crowning season. He was seen as a potential top-10 pick this year, but now he’s seen on a wide range that goes from a third-rounder to as low as a fifth or sixth-rounder. The Senior Bowl and the Combine are key to him.
