New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye made a key rush to get the first down in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to ensure their first Super Bowl berth since Tom Brady’s departure from the franchise. The Patriots won the chilly AFC title game against the Denver Broncos at Mile High, 10-7. Now they’ll face the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl in California.
Ahead of the big game, both Super Bowl quarterbacks are injured. Seahawks’ Sam Darnold is dealing with an oblique injury, while Maye is struggling with his right shoulder. On Monday, ex-NFL head team doctor, Dr. David Chao, revealed that it’s Maye’s injury that concerns him more ahead of the Super Bowl.
Maye injured his shoulder in the third quarter when he scrambled, sneaked to the left and landed on the right elbow following the tackle and then across his body. Dr. Chao suggested that after that hit, Maye’s passes were not effective and often rendered incomplete. He said this forced the Patriots to employ run game more. He also dropped several evidences in the quarterback’s appearances, predicting his shoulder might not be well before the big game.
Despite the evidences dropped by the former NFL team head doctor, fans are not entirely convinced if something is indeed wrong with the quarterback.
“Sounds like a stinger to me,” one fan wrote.
“This is some irresponsible nonsense,” another commented.
“so was he hurt when he stiffed armed the defender running out of bounds or was it when he threw the celebratory 1st down coz on both looked fine to me this dude a fraud,” one fan slammed Dr. Chao.
“Doc trying to stay relevant. Looks like you’ve lost your fastball,” one fan commented.
“Seems fine all the way through here including high fives with teammates at end of the play,” one fan wrote.
“Usually love your stuff but you’re off on this one. The Patriots didn’t throw because they were playing ultra conservative and knew the Broncos couldn’t score,” one fan added.
Drake Maye’s Injury Receives No Confirmation From Patriots
Even though Dr. Chao’s evidences and his point may look satisfying, there have been no official injury reports suggesting to what he was claiming. However, this may also be an attempt from the Patriots to hide the injury before the big game so that their opponent doesn’t sense blood.
Either way, this are just speculations, and until the Patriots come forward to give clarity regarding his injury situation, those will only rise.
THe upcoming practices will be key to determine if May is indeed injured or was it just a sore shoulder for the day.
