The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini scandal has now become an internet meme and reference. Recently, ESPN put it on national television, and the internet helped spread the reference to basketball fans across the world.
On a recent episode of ‘Inside the NBA’ on ESPN, they included an edited image of Vrabel and Russini standing on a boat. It’s arguably the most popular sports TV show, featuring Ernie Johnson and NBA legends, Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith.
Every playoff season, the inside crew bids farewell to the teams that get eliminated, especially in the early rounds. This year, the Boston Celtics got eliminated in the first round in a seven-game series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Celtics had a 3-2 lead after five games, but the Sixers were able to clinch back-to-back wins and advance to the Conference Semifinals. As for the Celtics, their season is now over, and the inside crew, keeping the tradition alive, sent them to Cancun.
They showed a graphic of a crew “gone fishin’” during the broadcast. The graphic featured Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as well as popular Boston fans, such as Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, and others.
The crew also included a picture of Vrabel and Russini, striking the famous Titanic pose, standing on top of the bow. Some fans didn’t like it as they felt it was distasteful, while others enjoyed the visual.
“Yeah. They are nothing but class. F**king losers,” a fan wrote.
“I love it, they’re never going to escape this. It’s going to follow them around forever and that is endlessly hilarious,” a fan wrote.
“Remains the greatest sports show on TV,” a fan wrote.
“It’s great that ESPN didn’t screw up this show. Inside the NBA srsly makes me a basketball fan, and I can’t dribble,” a fan wrote.
“As a Celtics and Patriots fan this is funny and any Boston sports fan that gets sincerely mad at this is a b**ch. You want to dish it you gotta take it,” a fan wrote.
The inside crew is known for these poorly edited images and the jokes that they crack on various subjects.
Mike Vrabel on Being the Best Version of Himself
The Vrabel-Russini scandal first came out when Page Six published their pictures where they were seen embracing at an Arizona hotel. A few days ago, the Post released additional photos of Vrabel and Russini together at a New York City bar in 2020.
It has turned into a chaotic situation for Vrabel, and he’s under a lot of pressure. Vrabel, after initially denying the notion of an affair, has stated that he will seek counseling. His primary focus right now is on his family and the team.
“What I believe is best for the two most important things in my life – my family and this football team – is for us to take the necessary steps to work together, and to give them what I told them I’d give them, which is the best version of me, and that’s what we’re going to do,” he said.
Vrabel took the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl this year, in his first season as their new head coach.
