“Holy Overpay”: NFL World Reacts As Titans Splurge Over $105M On DT Jeffery Simmons

The Tennessee Titans are clearly in no mood to hold back as they attempt to get back to the top, and have seemingly made a massive statement by extending Jeffery Simmons’ contract.

Simmons agreed to a three-year, $105.8 million extension on Friday, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

While some fans criticized the Titans’ move, Simmons is coming off a career year last season, and some fans recognized that.

What Did Jeffery Simmons Say About the Extension?

It’s clear that the Titans rewarded Simmons for his solid work ever since he joined the franchise in the 2019 NFL draft, and sounded thrilled to remain with the team.

“Tennessee has become a second home for me,” Simmons said, per Titans Wire.

“From day one, this organization believed in me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to pour into this franchise and community. I want to thank God, my family, my teammates, Ms. Amy, and the entire Titans organization for believing in me. My job isn’t finished. I believe in this locker room and this staff, and I’m focused on helping this team get back to competing for championships.”

Simmons’ extension likely comes on the back of a sensational season for the four-time Pro Bowler, where he recorded a career-high 11 sacks, 67 tackles and three forced fumbles.
