“I Hated Running”: Marshawn Lynch Drops Unfiltered Reason for Snubbing Seattle Sounders Career

Marshawn Lynch played 12 seasons in the NFL as part of the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders. Over this period, the explosive superstar tallied over 12,000 all-purpose yards and over 90 touchdowns.

However, despite being one of the best running backs of all time, Lynch’s answer to turning down a potential soccer career is sure to leave fans surprised.

When asked about possibly playing for the Seattle Sounders FC on the “Men In Blazers” podcast on Friday, Lynch had the following to say:

“They run too much. I know I played running back, but I hate running. I HATED running. That’s why I ran straight north and south. Running around? I don’t like being tired. We’ve got to get over it quickly.” (Timestamp – 36:30)

While steaming past the defense to the end zone is what Lynch excelled at, evidenced by not only his stats but also the several Pro Bowl selections, soccer proves to be a whole different ballgame, especially when it comes to having no breaks due to the varying substitution rules compared to the NFL.

During the same interview, Lynch also spoke about attending the USMNT’s game against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium and experiencing the various fan cultures coming together. He said:

“One thing that I saw, I think it might have been at the game at SoFi, was so many different cultures and so many different backgrounds all coming together for one common goal. I got a beer from somebody from Paraguay, got a beer from somebody from the States, and then, you know, some other individuals in between. It was more about just seeing everybody come together, though.”
