Despite Defeat, Drake Maye Pulls Off Historic Feat at Super Bowl

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye struggled for most of the Super Bowl matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. However, in the final quarter, he became the best version of himself and pulled off a historic feat in the 29-13 loss.

Maye finished the game with 295 total passing yards with two touchdown passes while completing 27 of 43 passes. Interestingly, 235 of the total passing yards were thrown alone in the fourth quarter. This was the most amount of passing yardage in a single quarter in Super Bowl history.

What’s more important is that Maye did so despite being on painkillers because of his bad throwing shoulder.

Before the game, the 23-year-old quarterback said he took a painkiller injection.

“My shoulder feels, they shot it up, so not much feeling,” he said. “It was good to go, and felt alright.”

Drake Maye Opens Up About Pain of Losing Super Bowl

Drake Maye struggled massively in the first three quarters of the game. At the same time, Seahawks kicker Jason Myers took the Seahawks to a 12-0 lead.

While Maye led the Patriots to two touchdown drives in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough to cover the lost offense in the first three quarters. The quarterback took responsibility for some of the team’s struggles.

“Definitely hurts. It’s been a long ride,” Maye said. “They played better than us tonight. They deserved to win that game. I love this team. All those guys in the locker room. We leave it all on the field and I know a lot of guys did that tonight. We just came up short. We didn’t play our best and that’s what happens.

“All credit to them. They brought some pressure. They got us a few times. I just got to be better with the football and make better decisions. I got to make better throws when the game is like that. I have to make some throws and help us move the football.”

Maye will hope to put this loss behind him, recover his shoulder in the offseason, and return in good spirits.
