Shedeur Sanders received a late-season surprise as he was named a replacement for the Pro Bowl. The Cleveland Browns quarterback was not initially considered for the same, but some adjustments have been made now.
The adjustments are done in light of a clear Super Bowl picture and some injuries that other players have taken. Shedeur is presumably a replacement for Drake Maye, as the New England Patriots quarterback is headed for the Super Bowl.
Shedeur’s Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, had to wait for two years after making his NFL debut to get his first Pro Bowl nod. So, as long as the Sanders’ family history goes, Shedeur has taken a head start over his father.
It’s a moment of celebration for the Sanders family, despite whatever people have to say about Shedeur’s inclusion. His mother, Pilar, is very hyped over the news and made an Instagram post congratulating her son.
“CONGRATULATIONS SON!!!! PROBOWL 2026! GO @shedeursanders ! ❤️ THANK YOU ALL!” she wrote.
Shedeur’s Pro Bowl nod is bound to ruffle some feathers. He had to wait on the sidelines for most of the season, and when he made his debut, it didn’t go well for him or his team. Shedeur made seven starts this season.
The Browns went 3-4 in the games he started and eventually failed to make the playoffs. Shedeur accumulated 1400 yards with just seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In addition to that, there was a lot of drama surrounding his name.
Not that it disqualifies Shedeur from being in contention for league honors, such instances add to the bigger narrative against him. The conversation around the recent Pro Bowl update is going to start some interesting debates now.
Rich Eisen on Shedeur Sanders’ Pro Bowl Inclusion
On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, the host talked about Shedeur being named the replacement for the Pro Bowl. His co-host argued that this shouldn’t count as Shedeur getting his first Pro Bowl nod.
Eisen agreed with his take on it and added that “his numbers are not Pro Bowl worthy.” There are several arguments that can be made against Shedeur. He didn’t play a full season, had no impact in the games he played, and his overall stats reflect that.
The reality, however, is that Shedeur now has a Pro Bowl on his resume. While the conversations around it are likely going to be discouraging, the quarterback can use it as his motivation to actually earn his Pro Bowl nod next season.
