After trying to match Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, rightwing political group Turning Point USA raised a lot of eyebrows after their headliner, Kid Rock, failed to draw in a lot of viewers. To make things more complicated, Erika Kirk, the widow of founder Charlie Kirk, was a no-show at the event as critics panned the event for various technical issues.
Erika Kirk, who has been accused by fans of profiteering off her husband’s death, has been widely featured in memes that show her celebrating instead of grieving in the aftermath of the late rightwing provocateur’s death. She widely promoted the alternate halftime show ahead of Sunday, but did not even make an appearance.
Brantley Gilbert served as the opener for the performance, followed by Gabby Barrett and then Lee Brice, before headliner Kid Rock took the stage. However, the rocker raised eyebrows when fans noticed that he was obviously lip-synching his 1999 single “Bawitdaba.”
Before the event, which drew in a small fraction of Bad Bunny’s performance, did try to get as many MAGA supporters to watch during an interview with rightwing propaganda channel, Fox News.
“It’s powerful because what Charlie always loved and knew is that he wanted to be in the forefront of the culture war,” she said. “He would be fist-pumping to this. He would be so stoked. And what better way to honor him than to just get in the middle of this and be able to offer an alternative to families.”
Donald Trump Accidentally Admits He Did Not Watch TPUSA’s Halftime Show
As for how badly Turning Point USA’s alternative halftime show did, even one of Bad Bunny’s biggest critics might not have watched their show. Instead, he may have watched the Super Bowl and the actual Halftime Show, headlined by Bad Bunny.
President Donald Trump posted a long rant regarding Bad Bunny’s performance during the show, unintentionally admitting that he watched the Puerto Rican over the “All-American” halftime show that his supporters were watching.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” Trump posted. “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.”
Trump declared that he was not attending the Super Bowl in Santa Clara this year. Green Day, the band which opened the Super Bowl, is regarded as one of the most anti-Trump bands in the US. Meanwhile, a vocal Trump critic in Bad Bunny headlined the Halftime Show.
