Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh may be tapping into one man to be a part of his coaching staff in his new NFL franchise. On Monday, Jan. 19, it was announced that Saleh has been named as the head coach for the Tennessee Titans for the 2026 NFL campaign. He will leave his role with the 49ers and take over from former Titans tactician Brian Callahan, who was dismissed last October.
In a video posted by NFL analyst Mike Garafolo, he predicted that Saleh will tap into recently fired New York Giants coach Brian Daboll as his offensive coordinator at Tennessee. This came during Garafolo’s recent appearance on the NFL Network.
“So, Robert Saleh hiring an offensive coordinator, I think he’s gonna have some cards to show some folks, whereas maybe a second time around for a head coach doesn’t necessarily have that kind of draw. He’s gonna have that draw. Brian Daboll interviewed for this head coaching job. I believe he’s still in the mix for offensive coordinator. He and Saleh have built a relationship over the years,” Garafolo explained.
“And, Daboll, I know, is one of the guys that does like what he sees in Tennessee. So let’s see how that one goes,” he added.
Saleh, similar to Daboll, was once part of a New York-based NFL franchise. But for the 46-year-old, he was the head coach of the New York Jets for three years, from 2021 to 2024. After stints as an offensive consultant with the Green Bay Packers and then the aforementioned 49ers, Saleh now finds himself back in a main shot-caller role. He may acquire Daboll, who was fired by the Giants franchise last November.
Mike Garafolo Details How Close The Tennessee Titans Were In Snagging John Harbaugh
Along with his speculations regarding Brian Daboll becoming the top candidate to be the Tennessee Titans’ next offensive coordinator, Mike Garafolo also discussed how close the Titans franchise was to acquiring legendary NFL coach John Harbaugh instead of Robert Saleh.
According to Garafolo, the Titans were second in running for Harbaugh, who has now signed a deal with the New York Giants.
“The Titans were the number two in the John Harbaugh, the runner-up in the John Harbaugh sweepstakes, and there’s a reason for that. There’s a lot to like in Tennessee. The quarterback, a lot of people like what they’ve seen from him. I had one coordinator candidate say he could be great. That’s one. Two, lots of cap room. Three, high draft picks. Four, they got a new stadium that they’re about to head into here,” Garafolo shared.
