The New York Giants fired Brian Daboll after the team went on a 2-8 run to start the season. His stint with the Giants from 2022 to 2025 was a disaster and not a true reflection of what he is capable of as a coach.
Daboll’s record with the Giants stands at 21-41-1. This was his first stint as a head coach, so there’s no balancing the poor record with another team’s win-lose numbers. However, Daboll has decades of experience in coaching football.
Over the last few weeks, he has made significant progress in securing a new job. Multiple teams are looking to offer him a role, and Daboll has been busy doing interviews for the same. As per an ESPN insider, there are two possible destinations for him.
Peter Schrager, on a recent episode of Get Up, talked about the most recent developments on Daboll’s recruitment topic.
“Brian Daboll today is in Tennessee interviewing for the head coaching job with the Tennessee Titans. Why is that of note? Well, he’s had success with Josh Allen and with Jaxson Dart, and he and Mike Borgonzi do have a very close relationship,” Schrager said.
Borgonzi is the current general manager of the Titans and has worked together with Brian Daboll in 2012 with the Kansas City Chiefs. If the interview goes well, Daboll has a chance to become the next head coach for the Titans.
The other prominent role, which is slightly more likely, is the offensive coordinator role with the Philadelphia Eagles. As per Schrager, the role sounds “very, very interesting,” and Daboll would be a great fit for the Eagles as their offensive coordinator.
The Giants were Unhappy with Brian Daboll’s Result
There’s no denying that the Giants have been one of the worst teams in the league in recent years. Their struggles are well known, and despite their best efforts, they haven’t been able to make a splash in the league.
Hiring Daboll for the job was part of the plan where the Giants would finally start winning games and qualify for the playoffs. But when that didn’t happen, the franchise decided to fire him and start looking elsewhere.
“The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise,” Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said. “We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product.”
At the time, they promoted assistant head coach Mike Kafka to the interim head coach position. On January 14, they announced John Harbaugh as their new head coach.
