“He Knew What He Was Doing”: Joe Flacco Doesn’t Hold Back While Revisiting Controversial T.J. Watt Hit

Revisiting one of the moments from his 2025 season on Netflix’s “Quarterback,” Joe Flacco said that Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt knew exactly what he was doing during a controversial roughing-the-passer penalty.

On Episode 6 of the series, titled “Toughness Is a Choice,” the show revisits the hit that left Flacco battling shoulder issues while filling in for Joe Burrow with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaking after the game, Flacco downplayed the incident.

“It’s just football. He did a good job of driving me into the turf,” he told reporters.

However, the microphones captured a more candid conversation on the Bengals’ sideline during the game.

“He knew what he was doing, too. He was like, ‘I’ve got a chance to hit him here. I’m gonna take full advantage,’” Flacco said, “It didn’t feel good. But that’s football. That’s the Steelers defense.”

The documentary later showed the physical toll that followed after the hit. Flacco spent the Bengals’ bye week receiving treatment on both shoulders before returning as Cincinnati’s starter.

Joe Flacco’s Hilarious Take on Shedeur Sanders’ Visor

“Quarterback” also gave fans a look at one of the lighter exchanges of the season.

During his time with the Cleveland Browns, Joe Flacco poked fun at Shedeur Sanders over the mirrored visor attached to his helmet.

“You notice Shedeur don’t have just like a clear visor; he’s got the clear mirror,” he said to a Browns coach.

When Sanders defended it as an “eye shield,” the veteran wasn’t convinced.

“Yeah, but if you wear a visor, it’s for looks,” Flacco said. “You think you look sweet. It’s that era. I don’t want my kids to wear visors either. They all want visors. I’m like, ‘Guys, they’re just annoying. They’re gonna fog up.'”

“I would let them wear it, but I would tell them, ‘You’re a quarterback, bro. You’re wearing a visor? You look like a idiot,'” he added, turning to Sanders.

“If you’re a quarterback, you can tell (when) you’re trying to look too sweet.”

The playful exchange ended with the veteran joking that he’d consider wearing one himself if Cleveland finally picked up a win.
