The Cleveland Browns and star defensive end Myles Garrett have agreed to modify the language of his contract.
Garrett agreed to a four-year extension with the Browns last offseason and the deal previously allowed for his option bonuses in 2026, 2026, and 2028 to be exercised by the 15th day of league year. In the new deal, the Browns have until seven days prior to the start of each season to decide whether or not to exercise his options. This allows the Browns to create more cap flexibility each season while Garrett gets $8 million of his base salary in 2029 and 2030 moved into roster bonuses.
With the move, the Browns can also trade Garrett easier. ESPN Radio host Evan Cohen thinks the Browns should deal Garrett after the modified contract.
Cohen said:
“If this yesterday, made it easier to move Myles Garrett, he never should have been on the Browns last year, the moment he asked out the Browns should have taken advantage of that… if it’s easier to trade him, they should trade him and I think it would be utterly ridiculous for him to play another snap for the Cleveland Browns.”
What Would It Cost To Trade For Myles Garrett?
There aren’t many Myles Garrett’s in the NFL and that’s why he’s the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In fact, Garrett has been named Defensive Player of the Year twice and he broke the NFL sack record last season recording 23 sacks in a single season.
So what would it cost to acquire Garrett? The answer isn’t clear, but it’s a lot.
We saw the Baltimore Ravens agree to send the Las Vegas Raiders two first-round picks for edge rusher Maxx Crosby, who is arguably the second-best edge rusher in the NFL. The Browns would likely start with that value to even hear out a possible trade offer.
Garrett has had 10+ sacks in each season since 2018 and has 125.5 career sacks in nine seasons played. The Browns could push for two firsts plus a player or three first-round picks. But it seems like they’ll be holding onto Garrett for now.
