How Did Yaxel Lendeborg React to Boos Against Purdue? Michigan Star’s Reaction Clear in High-Profile Game

Days after a controversial Yaxel Lendeborg video went viral, the Michigan Wolverines forward made his way to the arena of the rival team with whom he instigated tension. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Lendeborg and the rest of coach Dusty May’s Wolverines matched up against coach Matt Painter’s Purdue Boilermakers on the latter’s home floor, the Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.

In a video posted by college basketball writer Kevin Sweeney to his X/Twitter account, Lendeborg was captured during the pre-game introductions of both teams’ starting five. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, he was showered with heckles and boos from the home crowd. However, Lendeborg acted nonchalantly amid the negative crowd reception and continued to greet his teammates and perform their pre-game rituals.

The reason Lendeborg was met with negative crowd reaction is not just because he is a player on a conference rival of the Boilermakers, but also because of a viral video that circulated before the Purdue-Michigan matchup. In the video, Lendeborg used expletives about how his team will defeat the Boilermakers.

Nevertheless, it seems that Lendeborg is a man of his word, as the Wolverines defeated Purdue by 11 points, 91-80.

Dusty May Reveals That Yaxel Lendeborg Regrets The Message He Sent To Purdue

In a video posted by @cbbonfox on Instagram, coach Dusty May’s post-game press conference is shown.

In the said clip, May was asked about his thoughts on the aforementioned expletive-filled message that Yaxel Lendeborg sent out before the win over the Purdue Boilermakers. May said Lendeborg regrets saying the things he said in the viral video.

“ I spoke at length with Yel about it. And the most disappointing part of it is that he feels really bad about how he’s perceived from children, and those that look up to him. He said, ‘Coach,  I don’t even use that language in conversation. I don’t like the way it makes me look. I feel terrible about it.’ And then, obviously, how he’s perceived to our fan base, and those that he cares about,” May shared.
