Virginia Basketball Transfer Portal: Top 3 Players Cavaliers Need to Target

Like many teams, the Virginia Cavaliers are slated to lose players, be it from the transfer portal or to their seniors leaving. In the Cavaliers’ case, it is mostly from eligibility, with its core of guard Chance Mallory, forward Thijs De Ridder, and center Johann Grunloh all confirming that they will be staying with the team.

However, they will still be losing seniors Dallin Hall, Malik Thomas, Jacari White, Devin Tillis. and Ugonna Onyenso, two of whom are starters and three were top bench players. This means that the team has to dip into the transfer portal to shore things up, so who should they take?

Top 3 Basketball Transfer Portal Targets Virginia Should Go After

SG PJ Haggerty – Kansas State

There is no doubt that Virginia has a solid core of returning players, but they also need a scorer, and that is where PJ Haggerty could come in, as he can light up the score board and be an outside threat. He averaged 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists, which could improve the Cavs’ offensive output. He is also flexible, being able to slot in at the 1, 2 or 3 and play well, so this is a plus for any team.

SF Juke Harris – Wake Forest

With Thijs De Ridder staying, the Cavs have secured their 4 spot, so they just need a new 3, which could mean they may be looking for one in the transfer portal. One of the best available right now is Wake Forest’s Juke Harris, who is an outside threat who would be able to complement De Ridder from the wings and maybe also rain threes. He averaged 21.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last season, which shows that he could indeed light things up if needed.

    G Zoom Diallo – Washington

With a lot of their key bench players leaving, they could get a premium sixth man in Zoom Diallo, who could play both the 2 and the 3 as well. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and is still a sophomore, so he has the potential to explode and also be a starter if needed. While he is a viable 6, he might also be a good starter at the 1 or 2 as he is a decent playmaker but also a good attacker.
