Michigan has shown that it is one of the best college basketball programs in the country and despite being busy with the NCAA Tournament, they were also busy with recruiting. The Wolverines have made it to the National Championship Game after beating Arizona in dominant fashion during the Final Four, and soon after, they just landed a five-star recruit in point guard Brandon McCoy Jr.
So far, Dusty May’s program has been ranked the No. 3 in the country after the latest batch of commitments. He has so far recruited three forwards, two guards and one seven-footer for a center, and he may be getting more, even a few flips, should he win the national title on Monday. May has indeed shown that he could recruit, but the question now is, how did he recruit his current squad that has made it all the way to the NCAA final?
How Dusty May Assembled the 2025-2026 Michigan Wolverines Starters
For his biggest star, Yaxel Lendeborg, he originally went to UAB after decommitting from St. John’s, transferring in 2025 and becoming its star player. For power forward Morez Johnson Jr., the rebounding machine was also originally from another school, joining the team via the transfer portal in 2025 from Illinois. Spanish center Aday Mara also entered via the transfer portal in 2025, though he originally played for UCLA last season.
Starting point guard Elliot Cadeau was also a transfer portal player, originally playing for North Carolina but entered the transfer portal in 2025 and went to Michigan. The oldest starter, Nimari Burnett, was also a journeyman, originally playing for Texas Tech before transferring to Alabama and them Michigan.
How Dusty May Assembled the 2025-2026 Michigan Wolverines Reserves
Sixth man Trey McKenney is a Michigan original, committing to the program from high school last year. The same can be said for power forward Will Tschetter, who has been with the Wolverines since he committed to the team in 2021. Sophomore guard L.J. Cason has been with the Wolverines his entire career.
Dusty May’s son, Charlie May, was originally from UCF before transferring to his dad’s team. Meanwhile, injured freshman guard Winters Grady was a five-star recruit who chose to go to Michigan last year. Senior shooting guard Roddy Gayle Jr. played most of his college career at Ohio State before going to Michigan in 2025, while freshman seven-footer Malick Kordel chose the Wolverines last year.
