“What a Joke”: Fans Raise Their Voices as Donovan Dent Demands Eligibility Despite Announcing Retirement

Donovan Dent announced just a few months ago that he was retiring from basketball, but it now appears he might want another crack at a college basketball career. The former New Mexico and UCLA man has looked at the NCAA’s new rules around eligibility as an opportunity, but not all fans are happy about the move.

“I just looked at it as another opportunity because I was completely done with it, and seeing that they made a fifth year possible and all of my coaches and my family were like,’ Let’s give it one more,’” Dent told KRQE.

“They kind of talked to me about it, and I was like, okay. We just look at it like another opportunity for a blessing, I guess,” he added.

But fans have largely spoken out against the move and believe there’s no end to eligibility if everyone is allowed to return.

The natural next question now is where Donovan Dent will go, as he awaits the NCAA’s decision on his application.

What Are the Options for Donovan Dent?

In many ways, a return to college presents a conundrum for Dent. He will need to start from scratch and prove himself, but his previous quality might present some options. Admittedly, the point guard doesn’t know what his future holds, just that he continues to work with kids with a basketball camp planned this week.

“Just really, like, how to be competitive and learn at a high level, being able to teach the kids, show them the little things that we can as much as we can is really all you come out here for,” said Dent to KRQE.

“They all come out here to learn, have a blast, hang out with me. It’s just a lot of fun to be with all of them.”

Only time will tell if Dent makes a glorious return to the college scene.
