The Kansas Jayhawks have been bleeding star players left and right. Not only are they losing star big man Flory Bidunga, but they are also expected to lose star guard Darryn Peterson to the NBA Draft.
They were dealt another blow as power forward Bryson Tiller announced he will also enter the transfer portal.
This is the latest exit from Bill Self’s program, once touted as one of the best in the nation. Now, fans believe the Jayhawks must land No. 1 prospect Tyran Stokes, while others question Kansas’ ability to keep players.
“A pair of pretty big hits in Kansas losing Bryson Tiller and Flory Bidunga. Almost have to land Tyran Stokes now. I think Tiller could be one of the bigger breakout players in CBB next year. Bidunga is super steady and a monster on the defensive end. Won’t be easy to replace,” said one X user.
“These guys are jumping in because theres a huge premium on bigs right now. What they hear atm and what they actually get may be two different things, but I would think coaches are starting to place more emphasis on their value over the next few seasons,” one person pointed out.
“If we can’t get stokes I’ll gladly take Bryson tiller,” said another person.
“Why can Kansas not retain guys anymore?” another person asked.
“With Bidunga and DP gone he was likely gonna be the guy next season surprised he’s leaving,” one person noted.
“Clearing money for @tyran_stokes,” added one person.
Kansas Still the Favorite to Land Tyran Stokes
Despite the turmoil of players leaving left and right, Bill Self’s Kansas is still the odds-on favorite to land star small forward Tyran Stokes. ZagsBlog writer Adam Zagoria reported that Stokes could announce his decision after Saturday during the Nike Hoop Summit.
The finalists to get him are Kansas, Kentucky and Oregon, though the realistic contenders are Kansas and Kentucky.
Zagoria added that he spoke with an anonymous coach at the Final Four. This coach noted that the Rainier Beach star “is gonna end up at Kansas,” and this is because of a connection between KU assistant Kurtis Townsend and Stokes’ agent Aaron Goodwin.
