Luka Bogavac has entered the transfer portal following his freshman season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, who have hired Michael Malone as the new head coach after their March Madness run ended in the first round for the second straight year.
This past season, Bogavac averaged 9.8 points per game across 33 appearances, including 21 starts. Before the recent transfer portal news, there were rumors that he was potentially returning for his sophomore season. Not to be, his biggest selling point would be the 20-point outing against Clemson in the ACC Tournament.
Let’s take a look at five teams that could add him to their roster.
5 Potential Landing Spots for North Carolina Guard Luke Bogavac
1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are highly interested in this transfer portal as they are in search of guards and shooters in the portal after witnessing the departure of multiple perimeter players.
They need guards who can shoot the 3-ball well, and that’s why Bogavac could fit right in as he shot 34.9% from beyond the arc in the 2025-26 season.
2. Villanova Wildcats
Like Gonzaga, Villanova faces a similar problem with multiple key guards leaving the program to transfer to the transfer portal. They are already on the toes of evaluating high-scoring guards like Robert Wright III, suggesting their intentions this offseason.
Bogavac could be brought in as a secondary ball handler with the ability to stretch the floor.
3. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee just suffered another transfer portal departure after Bishop Boswell also searched for a new destination. The program had already lost its starting guard, Ja’Kobi Gillespie, due to eligibility. While they have added Tyler Lundblade from Belmont to replace some shooting, they need someone like Bogavac to give them the scoring punch. His 6-foot-6 size should be considered an advantage in the SEC.
4. Texas Longhorns
Texas will need to scout in the transfer portal after Simeon Wilcher announced his plans to enter the transfer portal, requiring head coach Sean Miller to recruit guard depth off the bench.
The Longhorns are looking for someone who can offer consistent production. Bogavac won’t get the starting role here, but he could come off the bench and get good minutes. There may be an opportunity down the line if an injury or poor play from a starting backcourt option.
5. Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines have suddenly become a premier landing spot for transfer portal players after Dusty May led them to the NCAA Championship this past season. Several of their guards are either out of eligibility or leaving for the NBA, requiring them to address the roster issue in the transfer portal.
Bogavac could come in with an ability to contribute on and off the ball.
