Louisville Basketball Recruiting: Ranking the 3 Biggest Impact Players for Pat Kelsey

Pat Kelsey joined the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball program as head coach in 2024. With over a decade of head coaching experience, Kelsey came in with high expectations, and he has managed to deliver so far.

He had the most successful season of his head coaching career in 2025-26, making it to the Round of 32 for the first time. With a 51-19 overall record, Kelsey has positioned himself to make a run for the national title.

He has made some valuable additions to his squad ahead of the next season. The Louisville roster is shaping up, and three new signings have the potential to make the biggest impact for Kelsey’s team.

Flory Bidunga: The consensus No. 1 prospect in the transfer portal and reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-10 center is expected to be a dominant anchor in the frontcourt.

Jackson Shelstad: One of the most highly coveted point guards in the country. He started his college career with the Oregon Ducks in 2023. Shelstad brings veteran leadership, sharp shooting, and experience to Kelsey’s system in Louisville.

Obinna Ekezie Jr.: Originally the top center in the 2027 class, he reclassified a year early. The 7-foot, 5-star recruit is a massive frontcourt addition who gives the Cardinals tremendous size alongside Bidunga.

“I chose Louisville because it has everything I need in terms of winning and development. I have a great opportunity to develop and showcase my game at both the 4 and 5 alongside Flory Bidunga. Louisville already feels like home to me and we’re going to be an incredibly competitive team. We’re striving to win a National Championship,” Ekezie Jr. told On3’s Joe Tipton.

Kelsey will have a complete roster, and his players are already motivated to make a title run with the Louisville Cardinals.
