Kansas Basketball Recruiting News: Latest Updates on Jayhawks Targets

The Kansas Jayhawks lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and coach Bill Self will now shift his focus to strengthening the team for next season.

Terrence Hill Jr. of the VCU Rams recently had a Zoom call with Kansas coaches, and he is expected to visit the program soon. Utah’s Terrence Brown is also expected to visit Kansas soon.

Kameron Taylor had a Zoom call with Kansas coaches earlier this week. Taylor was scheduled to visit the campus, but according to On3, the visit has been canceled. Dai Dai Ames and Dasean Goode are expected to visit the campus on Monday.

While none of these players have committed to the Kansas Jayhawks yet, the program is experiencing a huge roster overhaul. Forward Flory Bidunga was one of the first to enter the portal, and several players have followed the same path since.

Bryson Tiller, Paul Mbiya, Elmarko Jackson, and Jamari McDowell have all entered the portal, adding to Bill Self’s woes.

Self took his team to the national championship in 2022, after a 14-year-long wait, but they have struggled since. This year, they finished 24-11 overall and 12-6 in the conference. They suffered a blowout loss against the Houston Cougars in the Big 12 Tournament.

The Jayhawks defeated the California Baptist Lancers 68-60 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but they lost 67-65 against St. John’s Red Storm in the second round.

Bill Self will Return as the Kansas Jayhawks Head Coach

Bill Self has been the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks since 2003. He has won two NCAA titles, in 2008 and 2002. With a 634-167 overall record, including 299-91 in the conference, Self is one of the most successful coaches ever.

However, after the Jayhawks’ NCAA Tournament exit this year, Self was rumored to leave the program. However, he issued a statement, announcing that he would return next season.

“With renewed clarity and the ongoing support from our administration, I remain focused and committed to Kansas basketball competing for National Championships,” Self said. “I look forward to seeing and hearing the best fans in college basketball next season at Allen Fieldhouse.”

After the loss to St. John’s, Self said he would take some time off to be with his family and then think about his future as a head coach.
