Michael Malone is back in the spotlight with his move to North Carolina. While the former Denver Nuggets head coach brings championship experience to Chapel Hill, there’s also a personal connection that makes this decision stand out. Malone won’t be stepping into unfamiliar territory as his family is already a part of the program.
His daughter, Bridget Malone, is currently a member of the North Carolina women’s volleyball team, adding an extra layer of intrigue to his return to coaching.
Who is Bridget Malone?
Bridget Malone is a 19-year-old volleyball player at North Carolina. Before arriving at UNC, she was a standout at Mountain Vista High School, where she earned All-State and All-Academic honors while also being named a USA NTDP athlete. She has continued to develop at the collegiate level.
During her time with the Tar Heels, she has recorded several notable performances, including a career-high nine kills against Syracuse and six digs against Boston College. She also posted a .500 hitting percentage in matches against Clemson and Syracuse, showing her efficiency on the floor.
Off the court, she has started to build a following as well, sharing glimpses of her volleyball journey on social media.
A Proud Moment For Michael Malone
Despite spending years coaching at the highest level of professional basketball, Malone has admitted that watching his daughter compete brings a different kind of pressure.
“I get more nervous watching her play her games than I did when I was coaching in the NBA,” Malone once said. “That’s my daughter, and I just have so much pride when I’m watching her.”
With Malone now expected to take over at North Carolina, the father-daughter connection adds a compelling storyline to watch. As he begins a new chapter in college basketball, he won’t just be building a program; he’ll be doing it in the same place where his daughter is chasing her own dreams.
That might make this move even more meaningful.
