Dan Hurley’s UConn Signee Colben Landrew Enters Top 10 List for Special High School Honor

One of the incoming players at Dan Hurley‘s UConn Huskies has made an elite list that comprises the upper echelon of high school players from the 2025-26 season. On Thursday, Feb. 12, @storrscentral on Instagram reported that Wheeler High School forward Colben Landrew, who is already signed to the Huskies, has been named a top-10 semifinalist for this year’s Naismith Trophy Boys’ High School Player of the Year award.

Landrew is currently in his final year of high school hoops, and he is looking to finish his tenure as strongly as possible ahead of his first season in college. Colben could be recognized as the best high school player in the nation if he wins the award. Other candidates who have been named include Tyran Stokes, Taylen Kinney, Caleb Gaskins, and Deron Rippey Jr.

“NEWS: #uconnmbb signee Colben Landrew is a top 10 semifinalist for the 2026 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Boys’ High School Player of the Year. Congrats @iamcolbenlandrew 💯 #BleedBlue,” @storrscentral on Instagram captioned with an emoji.

Currently, Landrew is ranked, by 247Sports, as the No. 24 national recruit among all five-star prospects in his class. The 6-foot-6 standout will be joining a Huskies squad that is aiming to get back to the college basketball mountaintop with the 2026 NCAA championship. UConn won it all in consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, and now has an overall record of 23-2 (13-1 Big East).

When Dan Hurley Said Colben Landrew Will Immediately Make An Impact

Last November, when both Colben Landrew and fellow high school class of 2026 recruit, Junior County, officially signed with the UConn Huskies, a video was posted by the UConn’s official X/Twitter account, featuring Dan Hurley. He discussed what it meant to sign both Landrew and Country. Hurley added that he believes both Landrew and County will make an impact as rookies.

“ When we think about Junior and Colben, you know, we see an opportunity for these guys to, you know, work and earn their way into impact positions as freshmen. I think these guys will be on the court and they’re gonna be helping us win really, really early in their career because of the family background and the programs that they’ve played in, you know,” Hurley shared.

“Whether they’re the grassroots programs that were winning championships or competing, you know, in the best league, the best leagues that you could play at as an amateur player,” he continued.
