Dan Hurley is known for his intensity and passion on and off the court. He is a serious taskmaster and is almost always brutal with his players. Hurley has been a coach for 30 years now. Many have questioned his coaching methods over the years, but his record speaks for itself.
Hurley has a .658, 336-175 record. He won back-to-back national championships with the UConn Huskies in 2023 and 2024, and has won multiple coaching awards in his eight years with the team. There have been numerous standout and successful players who have built their careers under Hurley.
Nobody likes the talk down, and even a pep talk from Dan Hurley scares some players. He is straightforward, brutally honest, doesn’t mince words, and is often stern with what he says. He has recently pinpointed some of the flaws in UConn’s game, and he was not polite about it.
“I think we as a team need to get a lot meaner. I think we need to you know, I think we need to play with more violence. We need to play with more nasty edge. We need to play with more of a killer instinct. I mean, you know, we got great guys in the program. I think we got a great culture. The downside of that is you know you wish, people that had an alter ego and the game started and became a little bit more killers,” Dan Hurley said for his team.
Fans React to Dan Hurley’s Wild Ask From His UConn Team
Fans online are always divided when Hurley makes a wild statement like that. It was the same this time.
“Such a Hurley! Bob Sr is no doubt proud. Great coaches,” one fan claimed.
“Could see this team losing to a 15 or 16 seed in March ngl,” one fan predicted.
“Go Huskies,” another showed support.
“This is not the 2nd best team in the nation lmao,” another fan doubted.
“When do we play Arizona for that top spot??!” one fan commented.
“16 straight wins after losing to the best team in the country,” another said.
