Dan Hurley has been one of the greatest modern day coaches in college basketball. While a lot of coaches have struggle to navigate through the NIL and transfer portal era, Dan Hurley has managed his Huskies pretty well. He has transformed many players in world class talents. Hurley has led UConn to back to back national championships, and now three NCAA title games in the last four years.
He has made the UConn Huskies into a top college basketball. For the past few years they have had some lucrative NIL budgets. Their roster budget has been highly competitive over the past few years. As per the new NCAA model, UConn had fully committed around $20.5 million revenue sharing budget.
For just college basketball though, although not publicly revealed, the athletic department saw a $7.6 million increase in self-generated revenue in 2023-24 season. A lot of that was allotted to the NIL budget. In the 2024-25 season Dan Hurley had $8 to $10 million in NIL budget. Recently, Dan Hurley commented on the involvement of money in the college basketball.
“Staffs don’t want to look like we’re paying the max. But you’ve got to be spending, I’d imagine, somewhere north of $14 [million] if you want to be in contention to compete at the top of the big league or to try to play deep into the tournament,” Dan Hurley said.
UConn Huskies’ NIL for next season
UConn Huskies had the same NIL budget for last season as they had for 2024-25 season. With the squad worth around $8-$10 million, UConn went till the national championship game in 2025-26 season.
