Ever since taking charge of the Kentucky Wildcats, coach Mark Pope has never been shy in showing his love and support for the school and the community. On Saturday, Pope issued a message of support for those affected by the recent flooding in Kentucky.
Pope urged everyone to stay safe and praised first responders for their handling of the matter.
“Our hearts are with everyone across Kentucky affected by the flooding. Stay safe, and thank you to the first responders and volunteers answering the call,” Pope wrote on X.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency on Saturday. Four deaths have been reported, and more rain is expected.
“This is a serious flooding event, where teams have already had to conduct multiple water rescues from vehicles and homes across the commonwealth,” Beshear said in a statement. “As more heavy rain continues through late tonight, we need folks to remain alert and to avoid driving, especially after dark when there is limited visibility.”
Two of Mark Pope’s players from the 2025-26 season were selected in the 2026 NBA draft
Coach Mark Pope had reason to celebrate as a couple of his players from the 2025-26 season were selected in this year’s NBA draft. Despite playing just four games for the Wildcats due to injury, Jayden Quaintance was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs with the 20th pick.
Along with Quaintance, Kentucky veteran Otega Oweh was also picked up in the draft. He was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 41st selection. Pope now aims to continue to retool his roster for the 2026-27 season without Quaintance and Oweh.
