“My Favorite Thing”: Jamal Crawford Keeps Kentucky Coaching Job Prospects Alive With Latest Message

Former NBA player Jamal Crawford has been rumored to be open to the idea of coaching the Kentucky Wildcats for quite some time now. This offseason, coach Mark Pope and his staff have yet to fill an empty assistant coaching spot, but they have seemingly been waiting on Crawford’s availability. This is because Crawford has spent a chunk of his time recently by commentating on the 2026 NBA Playoffs.

As fans and spectators eagerly tune in for development on Crawford potentially coaching the Wildcats, his recent post on X/Twitter may suggest he is interested. On Saturday, June 27, user @easy_breezy_b asked Crawford if he would consider coaching college basketball if an opportunity came up. Crawford then affirmed that he is open to it since he loves the idea of coaching.

“@JCrossover would you consider coaching in college, like maybe Michigan, if opportunity came up?,” the fan asked with Crawford responding with, “To be honest, would always consider coaching. My favorite thing to do…Much respect 👊🏾.”|

Apart from commentating on NBA games, Crawford has also helped out with coaching in his high school alma mater, Rainier Beach in Seattle, Washington. Should he take the assistant coaching role in the Wildcats, he’ll be joining fellow former NBA veteran Mo Williams, who has also taken the same role. Kentucky is looking to bounce back in the 2026-27 season after they were eliminated in the second round of the 2026 NCAA tournament.

Jamal Crawford previously had a cryptic response online when his Kentucky Wildcats offer was mentioned

Back in late May, user @BleedBlueCasey on X/Twitter posted that if Jamal Crawford were to decline his Kentucky Wildcats offer, he should continue commentating for the NBA. At that point, Crawford was being praised by the basketball world for how well he was calling NBA playoff games, given that he was doing so with precision and a somewhat veteran presence despite being new to the gig.

Crawford has since reposted the post and merely dropped a fist emoji to acknowledge it. Since then, the only development with Crawford potentially coaching the Wildcats was his recent post on X/Twitter. It remains to be seen where Crawford will take his career, but the 20-year NBA veteran is seemingly open to the idea of coaching the Kentucky-based program.
