“This Sport Is Out of Control”: Dan Hurley Makes Feelings Clear on “Horrible” And “Chaotic” Transfer Portal

Dan Hurley is almost always very public about his views on what he believes in. Most recently, he once again talked about the transfer portal.

“I’d say for me looking at it, I think you it, um, when you Tuesday into Wednesday, I think you’re like you got this mindset of like, um, man, this is horrible. This is chaotic. This sport is out of control and I think you know those things are certainly this at least partially true but then I think as you as you get through the weekend into today. I don’t know whether it’s I don’t think a numbness is the right word to it. You know but you just realize that it’s truly professional basketball,” Dan Hurley said.

Dan Hurley has been one of the greatest coaches of modern day. He has been coaching for 30 years now, and ever since he joined the UConn Huskies in 2018, he has led them to two back-to-back national championships and three Final Four appearances in the last four years.

He is one of the most renowned coaches and slowly but surely making his case to becoming one of the greatest coaches in the history of college basketball. His on-court behavior has often rubbed people the wrong way. But it won’t be wrong to say that he has also found the utmost success due to how he acts on the court and off it as well.

Dan Hurley questions college basketball rules

Coach Hurley recalled John Calipari’s suggestion. He pointed out that there is a need for a one-time transfer rule suggested by coach Calipari. He also said that players might benefit from having contracts, including buyouts, just like coaches. Hurley admitted that he is embracing the fact that players have to go through a process of recommitting.

“I think uh you know having a long season getting all the way to the championship game and then giving yourself obviously your body a chance to rest. You know, emotionally, mentally being it’s a long season resting but I actually like the fact that the players have to recommmit to wanting to be a UConn Husky,” he said.

“And really having to look deep inside you know their soul and obviously there’s a business component to it too but um I like the fact that u players now have to on a yearly basis like decide whether they want to be a husky or not. I think it’s uh I’m embracing that right now. Damn it. That’s what I’m telling myself,” Dan Hurley concluded.
