Nik Khamenia was one of Duke’s most promising freshmen but was soon overshadowed by the Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden, and he soon entered the transfer portal.
One of the schools he is interested in is UConn, the team that eliminated Duke in the Elite Eight. Khamenia was spotted in Storrs, having lunch with Huskies head coach Dan Hurley.
Visiting the team that eliminated Duke undoubtedly raised many eyebrows. While entering the transfer portal itself is not that controversial, Nik Khamenia visiting UConn and having a meal with Dan Hurley did strike a nerve with some fans.
“Bro really a snake,” one fan commented.
“What kinda shit is this?!?!??!?!” a fan questioned.
“Dan looking dead at the camera 😂😂,” laughed one fan.
“That would be a backstab to Brotherhood,” said another person.
“This makes me so dang mad!!,” commented another fan.
“why would he want to play for this animal,” asked one critic.
For now, Nik Khamenia has not yet decided where to go, but many Duke fans do not want him to go to Storrs. However, UConn does seem to be the frontrunner, especially with the forward visiting Storrs and dining with its head coach.
Duke Still Hopes Nik Khamenia Will Return to Durham
Meanwhile, over at Durham, many are still hoping Nik Khamenia could return to Duke. The forward averaged 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils and he is expected to get more playing time as a sophomore, especially with Cameron Boozer expected to leave for the NBA draft.
One person saying he could return is Locked on Duke’s JJ Jackson:
“The longer this drops out, there have been more and more insiders referencing that the door is not 100% shut on Nik Khamenia coming back to Duke for another season.”
His co-host, Kevin Connelly, agreed with Jackson’s assessment. Khamenia only has until Tuesday to decide where to go. And if he has not yet decided by then, he would return to Duke.
