The College basketball transfer portal is already open, but the number of players entering has slowed down, while the number of players signing with new teams have increased.
While it has not been wild, there were still a few surprises, but not a lot of big names heading into April 12. However, teams are now stepping up their drive in recruitment with nine days to go ahead of the April 21 deadline.
Players Entering the Transfer Portal or Joining a New Team (April 12)
Players Entering the Transfer Portal
- Freshman Power Forward Sidi Gueye: Leaving Arizona
Players Joining a New Team
- Sophomore PG Jaquan Johnson: Leaving Bradley for Iowa State
- Sophomore Shooting Guard Jonathan Powell: Leaving North Carolina for Pittsburgh
- Sophomore Small Forward Tyrone Riley: Leaving San Francisco for Oregon
- Freshman Power Forward Tre Singleton: Leaving Northwestern for Iowa State
- Sophomore Small Forward Blake Harper: Leaving Creighton for VCU
- Senior Shooting Guard Cobi Campbell: Leaving Troy for Liberty University
- Sophomore Shooting Guard Cooper Campbell: Leaving Troy for Liberty University
The newest player to announce his entry into the transfer portal almost five days in is Spanish power forward Sidi Gueye, a four-star transfer who may not have had much playing time with the Wildcats as much of that playing time went to fellow freshman power forward Koa Peat, who could be entering the NBA draft soon.
The biggest signing for the day could be San Francisco’s Tyrone Riley now going to Oregon. He was a four-star in high school and is also a four-star transfer who could give the Ducks the offensive boost they need in the very-competitive Big Ten.
He averaged 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds for San Francisco this season and was also a big target for Mark Pope over at Kentucky.
Meanwhile, Iowa State managed to snag not one, but two four-star transfers in freshman Tre Singleton from Northwestern and sophomore Jaquan Johnson from Bradley.
Bradley may be an undersized power forward, but he is offensively sound, while Johnson is seen to soon become the team’s new starting point guard.
So far, these are the signings in men’s college basketball. Expect more players to announce their entry into the transfer portal, as well as players finding new teams as the April 21 deadline draws ever closer.
