The Duke Blue Devils versus Michigan Wolverines game was nothing short of entertaining for die-hard onlookers, but a fiasco involving the referees may overshadow the hype it garnered. On Saturday, Feb. 21, coach Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils and coach Dusty May’s Michigan Wolverines had their 2025-26 marquee matchup in the Washington Wizards’ home arena, the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
In the said matchup, the stars of both squads expectedly shone as Duke swingman Cameron Boozer gave his all against Wolverines forward Yaxel Lendeborg as both players led their respective teams. But even with the evenly-matched head-to-head matchup, onlookers were quick to believe that the referees of the game were not prepared to officiate the game, as several dodgy decisions were said to be made.
“THE DUEL IN THE DISTRICT DID NOT DISAPPOINT 🔥 NO. 3 DUKE TAKES DOWN NO. 1 MICHIGAN 😤,” @espn on Instagram captioned with a couple of emojis.

College basketball fans and spectators react not too kindly to the alleged unfair officiating that occurred in the Blue Devils versus Wolverines game.
“Duke vs refs and still win lol,” one fan said.

“Refs ruined an instant classic smh gg Duke,” another fan shared.

“CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OFFICIALS!!!,” another user exclaimed.

“Michigan versus refs. Argue with a wall. Michigan still best team in the country,” a user wrote with a trio of emojis.

Other users all over the comment section laid down their thoughts on the decisions made that led to the outcome of the Duke-Michigan matchup.
“Anyone who actually watched the game will admit Duke didn’t win, so much as we just beat ourselves. Absolute ref show plus couldn’t hit shots. We’ll see them again,” one user claimed.

“Let’s hire ACC refs for a neutral site game. Seems real smart. Michigan played horrid and only lost by 7, in a game they probably should’ve won considering the momentum was taken away every time we got it,” another user explained.

“Duke won while having 8 fouls with like 9 minutes left 😂,” a user pointed out with a laughing emoji.

Both the Blue Devils and the Wolverines are projected to uncork deep postseason runs in both of their respective conference tournaments and the 2026 NCAA tournament. Duke and Michigan are the top seeds of the ACC and the Big Ten standings, respectively, which is why a cross-conference matchup between the two squads delivered the expected animosity it would bring.
The Duke Blue Devils Overcome The Michigan Wolverines By Just Five Points
In a hotly-contested affair that went down to the wire, Cameron Boozer and the rest of the Duke Blue Devils were able to overcome Yaxel Lendeborg and his Michigan Wolverines by just five points, 68-63. The Blue Devils now improve to a current overall record of 25-2 (13-1 ACC) while Michigan falls to a similar 25-2 (15-1 Big Ten) overall record. Both teams will now head back to their own conference play matchups.
