Brandin Cummings was developing in Pitt, but the young guard apparently isn’t satisfied with how things are going with the program. As such, he is reportedly making a move toward college basketball’s version of free agency.
According to On3’s Joe Tipton in a Tuesday report, Cummings has “plans to enter the transfer portal.”
With the guard set to hit the road, the next question is where he could land. Here’s a look at five different landing spots that could make sense.
5 Logical Landing Spots That Make Sense for Brandon Cummings
#5 – Gonzaga Bulldogs
The Gonzaga Bulldogs always seem to be a player or two away from winning a national championship. Once again, the team had no trouble reaching March Madness, but quickly ran out of gas. If Brandin Cummings is interested in getting a spotlight and significant playing time in the near future, he could do worse than the program located in Spokane, Washington.
#4 – Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes would be a decent choice as a program located on the East Coast and much closer to the Pitt area than Gonzaga if Brandin Cummings has a desire to stay local. Plus, as a program that reached March Madness, Cummings would get much of the credit if the team advanced further than the second round in the 2026-27 playoffs.
#3 – Penn State Nittany Lions
If staying local ranks highly on Brandin Cummings’ priorities list, the guard could join the Penn State Nittany Lions. With the school located in the same state as Pitt and just roughly two and a half hours away, Cummings could join a program that made the big tournament and still visit on impulse.
#2 – Duke Blue Devils
Of course, if winning is at the top of his priority list, Brandin Cummings could do worse than Duke. Duke was seconds away from advancing to the Final Four, but the moment appeared to be too big. With Cummings on the roster, Duke would likely have enough to get over the top, and much of the credit would go to the Pitt guard.
#1 – UConn Huskies
The UConn Huskies are local and dominant. If Brandin Cummings wants to stay local and also have a national championship chance with all of the status and attention attached, UConn should be at the top of his list. UConn also has room to grow offensively, ranking 145th in points per game in the NCAA, which could be his way in.
