Milan Momcilovic Reveals Mark Pope’s Recruiting Pitch for $6M Kentucky Move

Milan Momcilovic joined the Kentucky Wildcats in a landmark transfer after withdrawing from the NBA draft, in a deal that was reportedly worth around $6 million. Amid all the claims around why he chose to join the Lexington outfit, the Iowa State transfer has revealed why he made the move.

Speaking to the media, Momcilovic narrated the pitch he received from head coach Mark Pope, and highlighted watching Pope’s work done at his previous team, BYU, as major reasons behind the transfer.

“I think it helped watching Pope’s teams at BYU when we played them at Iowa State,” Momcilovic said.

“They beat us pretty good. I loved the way his teams played, moving the ball, sharing it, a lot of shooting. That kind of stuck in my mind in the recruiting process. Obviously, when he recruited me, his pitch was that he loves playing with shooters, so I felt like this offensive system was good for me and wrapped it up from there.”

Momcilovic’s shooting prowess led Iowa State to a stunning victory in the NCAA tournament over Mark Pope’s Kentucky too, knocking the Wildcats out, and temporarily putting Pope’s own job in danger.

Momcilovic Speaks About Social Media Change After Joining Kentucky

The Big Blue Nation’s (BBN) impact was visible to Momcilovic after he joined Kentucky, as he claimed his social media following grew tremendously once the move was confirmed.

“When I committed, I think it was, really, the first big thing,” he said.

“My social media grew tremendously. Obviously, I like that, more followers. So, I thought that was really cool. I’m on Twitter a little bit so I see some of the things they have to say. It’s a really big fanbase.”

The big man is already turning into a fan favorite at Kentucky, and if he can replicate some of his success from Iowa State, this might be a great season for the Wildcats and Momcilovic.
