Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU in the middle of their playoffs journey in the 2025 college football season was among the controversial stories last year.
Kiffin caught a lot of flak from many fans and analysts for abandoning his team while they were on such a successful run.
The former Ole Miss head coach demanded that the Rebels let him coach in the playoffs despite him already signing a contract with LSU and even threatened them to take most of the staff away with him to Louisiana.
Kiffin and Ole Miss has been at odds since then with both the parties throwing shots at one another sometime or the other.
I think I would have just came in and said, OK, I’m leaving. I’m very appreciative of everything. You know, I spent a lot of time right there fighting to coach the team, you know, trying to keep everything together. Totally respect their decision, you know, the athletic director for that not to happen. I get it. But I was trying so hard to keep that together. Like, hey, let us all coach. Let this whole thing. you know let’s see if we can go win the whole thing and so obviously that didn’t happen that way which then created a lot of it because that was a whole night and morning of that and then what’s going to happen and then the team meeting moved back and all the things that went with it and then you couldn’t have a normal team meeting because at that time it had you know gotten into all that and then you know naming of golding at the head coach.”
Paul Finebaum Reacts to Lane Kiffin’s Remarks About Recruiting at Ole Miss
Paul Finebaum has been one of the most vocal voices behind the criticism Lane Kiffin faces time and time again.
Kiffin recently spoke about the facing hardships in terms of recruiting during his time at Ole Miss in which he said many players would tell him they want to play for him but their grandparents didn’t allow them.
While Kiffin did apologize for his statement, Finebaum reacted to the controversial remarks and said the LSU head coach knew exactly what he was doing.
“One thing that we forget sometimes when we’re classifying him as either a villain or a clown or a puppeteer is that he’s a superb football coach.” Finebaum said.
Kiffin signed a 6-year, $91M deal with LSU after replacing Brian Kelly as the Tigers’ next head coach.
