Former Michigan staffer Paige Shiver has filed a lawsuit against the University of Michigan after it was discovered that she was having an affair with former head coach Sherrone Moore.
The lawsuit aims to uncover the findings of the law firm, Jenner & Block, to whom the school paid $12 million to investigate the scandal and abuse.
“It was important for our client to file this initial FOIA lawsuit to ensure the truth and facts come out,” Shiver’s attorney Andrew M. Stroth said.
Complete Timeline Of Paige Shiver’s Relationship With Sherrone Moore
2022-2025 (Approximate): Relationship Starts
According to court records, Sherrone Moore and Paige Shiver were allegedly involved in a romantic relationship for several years before it was discovered late last year. Moore has been with Michigan since 2018 and became the head coach of the program in January 2024 after Jim Harbaugh’s exit to the NFL.
Shiver was Moore’s executive assistant within the football program at the time.
Summer 2025: Anonymous Complaint
University of Michigan received an anonymous tip about the alleged relationship between the two in the summer of 2025. As a matter of rules, the program reportedly launched an internal investigation.
At the time, both denied the allegations, resulting in no disciplinary action by the school.
December 8, 2025: Relationship Ended
Just two days before Sherrone Moore was fired by the Wolverines, the relationship between Shiver and Moore ended, per court records. Shiver later came forward and provided evidence to university officials, supporting the existence of the relationship.
December 10, 2025: Michigan Fired Moore
Upon receiving the account from Shiver, Michigan decided to fire its head coach, terminating his contract “for cause” as he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member that was against the program’s code of conduct.
Hours later: Moore Allegedly Took Matters Into His Own Hands
After receiving the news of his termination, Moore rushed to Shiver’s residence and confronted her, as per the account of authorities. He allegedly grabbed knives and threatened to commit suicide. He fled the scene before the authorities arrived and was later taken into custody on several charges, including home invasion.
March 2026: Moore Accepts Plea Agreement
In March, Sherrone Moore accepted a plea agreement. While the felony charge against him was dismissed, the former head coach pleaded no contest to misdemeanor counts of malicious use of a telecommunications device and trespassing.
April 2026: Verdict On Moore
A Michigan court sentenced the former head coach to 18 months of probation and imposed fines.
Meanwhile, Shiver, who didn’t attend the hearing, was not happy with the verdict, as she said that it “does not reflect the harm done to me.”
Later in the month, Shiver gave several interviews, including one with ABC News, where she admitted that Moore dominated her life and that the university didn’t protect her despite being aware of the situation. According to her, the relationship was known within the program.
“He controlled everything that was going on in my life,” she told ABC’s Good Morning America, “and they didn’t do anything about it.”
February-June 2026: FOIA Requests Denied
During this period, Shiver submitted multiple Freedom of Information Act requests to get details of Michigan’s investigation into Moore.
July 8, 2026: Lawsuit Filed
After the University of Michigan denied her access to those records, she filed a lawsuit in Washtenaw County Court on Wednesday. According to the lawsuit, the university violated Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act by refusing to release records tied to the investigation.
“The lawsuit filed today demands transparency and accountability from the University of Michigan, President Grasso and the Board of Regents,” Shiver’s attorney said. “This public university paid Jenner & Block $12 million to investigate the Sherrone Moore scandal and the abuse, Title IX and Title VII violations within the athletic department and Schembechler Hall, yet now refuses to release the investigation’s findings. It was important for our client to file this initial FOIA lawsuit to ensure the truth and facts come out.”
Michigan has not commented on the lawsuit so far.
