Lane Kiffin Drops Tone Deaf Reaction to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s Death, Jokes About Leaving LSU

LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin likes to stay in the loop with the current trends. He keeps an active social media presence, often posts cryptic remarks aimed at his rivals, and maintains a strong hold on what’s trending.

In that process, Kiffin experiences some slip-ups, ends up posting something that’ll be considered tone deaf, or gets trashed by the fans online. The Tigers’ head coach’s recent Instagram story falls in that category.

The US and Israel recently carried out large-scale missile strikes against targets in Iran as part of Operation Epic Fury and Operation Roaring Lion. On 28 February 2026, Reuters published a report of an unnamed Israeli official who claimed Khamenei’s body had been found.

The next day, Iranian state TV confirmed Khamenei’s death. The ongoing tension between the countries involved has been the biggest headline on news platforms across the globe. Social media has become the preferred outlet for common people to share their thoughts on the issue.

The other side of social media, one that helps originate memes, crack jokes, and make light of even the most serious topics, is also having a field day with all the news coming in. One user posted a morphed picture of Kiffin with the following message:

“BREAKING: Lane Kiffin is leaving LSU to become the new ayatollah of Iran: ‘I will forever cherish my 3 months in Baton Rouge but becoming Supreme Leader is the next chapter in my career,’” the post read.

The post was a shot at Kiffin, referring to his sudden departure from Ole Miss to join the Tigers in the middle of the season. However, Kiffin was unbothered by the context and probably found it funny. He shared the post on his IG story.

In a war-like situation that’s getting worse by the day, only Kiffin could’ve posted that image on his Instagram.

Lane Kiffin Made a TikTok Video with Livvy Dunne

Since joining the Tigers as their new head coach, Kiffin has been embraced by the LSU family. He was spotted with Kim Mulkey earlier as he went to watch the women’s basketball game, and he recently linked up with Livvy Dunne.

Dunne is one of the most popular athletes to come out of LSU. She represented LSU in gymnastics and has become a social media sensation post-retirement. At a recent gymnastics meet, Kiffin and Dunne recorded a TikTok video together.

The video shows Dunne watching the meet as a spectator. Then she turns toward Kiffin, who mouths, “You wish that was you, huh?”

Dunne posted the clip on her social media accounts, and it ended up going viral.
