Ty Simpson is the second-highest rated quarterback in his class behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to be the first overall pick. Simpson played for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2022 to 2025.
The 2023 SEC Champion is making waves at the NFL Draft Combine. Due to his Alabama background, Simpson is seen as a reliable option in the upcoming draft. However, as of now, it’s unclear which team he’ll join.
Interestingly, Simpson recently addressed the relationship he has with Todd Monken, the head coach for the Cleveland Browns. Monken joined the Browns in January 2026. Simpson’s father and Monken have a longstanding friendship.
“My dad and coach Monk go way back,” Simpson said. “They talk often. He texted him when he got the job, and they texted a little bit. So, if I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it’d be a dream come true.”
Simpson believes that if he goes to Cleveland, he’ll be in “great hands” under Todd Monken’s leadership. He praised the team, the Browns organization, and said that coach Monken is exceptional when it comes to handling quarterbacks and the team’s offense.
The Alabama quarterback stated that the Browns organization will be quarterback-friendly under Monken, and that makes it the perfect landing spot for a budding QB like him. He also thinks that Monken could help him achieve his full potential.
The Browns would be the ideal team for Simpson, considering his personal relationship with the head coach. However, they already have a tussle going on at the quarterback position between Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.
Sanders and Gabriel battled for the starting QB position last season, and if the Browns pick Simpson in the draft, he’ll likely be placed behind them in the order.
Ty Simpson is Ready to Be a Franchise Player
Simpson played 31 games in his four seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide. 15 of those appearances happened in his final season, when he was the starting quarterback for his team throughout the season.
The numbers aren’t exactly in his favor as far as his claim to be a franchise player from the jump is concerned. Still, Simpson is confident that he will be the right man for the job.
“First off, I think I’m ready, I’m a franchise quarterback,” Simpson said. “Alabama prepares you the most for the NFL … The Alabama locker room is as close to an NFL locker room as you can get.”
Simpson is confident, but will he be able to convey that vision to an NFL franchise? We will have to wait and see.
